I am indebted to the late great Bob Carlos Clarke.

‍Bob became my good friend and i was privileged to be working with him on these superb photographs for my catalogue Maid In London.

He also contributed so much to the success of my rubber wear collections.

I would also like to thank Lindsey Carlos Clarke, for her help and guidance whilst working with Bob and the models who offered their enthusiastic support to all my pictures.

BOB CARLOS CLARKE

At first the outfits were crudely made from heavy gauge-rubber constructed to withstand the rigours of practical pervery. Then. in the earley 1980s, I was browsing in the shop 'Boy' on the Kings Road when i noticed some particularly well-made clothing labelled Daniel James of London'.

It was the start of a five-year collaboration between Daniel and myself. He was a perfectionist, who would make and re-make outfits until they fitted like a second skin.
We worked together to create his first mail-order catalogue, Maid In London', which I sold through my own mail order company, Strict Additions. It all sounds pretty high powered, but in reality, it was just Lindsay and I working through the night packing up orders on the living room floor. The best part was collecting envelopes stuffed with checks and cash from PO Box 606.

Daniel also made costumes specifically to my design, like the mermaid tail,
and his work became thematic to my second book, 'The Dark Summer'. Later, designers like Terry Mugler and Jean Paul Gautier embraced the fetish scene, but by this time Daniel James had vaporised into a gentle mist of talcum powder and Mr Sheen
